Connecting To Our Simulators

Most people will use there current Second Life Client Software to connect to our grid and simulators,  in order to connect successfully, you need to either use of of the test user accounts provided below or request a log in account. Accounts will only be provided to people who join our project team to aid in the further advancement of the simulator software project overall.

To Connect in Windows:

1. Make sure your Second Life client is currently closed. 

2.  In Windows -> Goto Start Button -> Run -> Type CMD ->Hit Enter or OK 

3. A Black (DOS) Window just opened  – At the Prompt, change directory to the root C:\ directory by either Typing C: and Hit Enter or Type cd .. to change from your current directory to the C:\> prompt. 

4. Your Should Now have a C:\> on the line in the black window. Type CD program files\secondlife (this assumes you installed SL to the default location).

5. In The black window the prompt is C:\Program Files\Secondlife\> Type the following command:
SecondLife.exe -loginuri http://testgrid.gridgalaxy.com:9000/ and hit enter  –  this will open your second life software.

6.  In the user name put your Grid Galaxy Account Info and sign in for Test Users -use one of these account
       a. FN: Test LN: User1 PW: testxxx
       b. FN: Test LN: User2 PW: testxxx
       c. FN: Test LN: User3 PW: testxxx

7. Click Sign in and sign into our simulator.

If your looking for cheap land to build and practice and learn in the OS environment, we will be happy to rent you a land region for personal use. 

Grid Mode Deployed on Three Servers

We are please to announce we have successfully deployed the OpenSimulator across three separate windows servers each providing resource for a service. A small battle ensued due to a log-in issue with Mysql, after formatting the server with a fresh copy of windows and relaunch of Mysql 5  we had the same issue of not being able to connect. Turns out to have been a burp with the Cisco Pix Firewall  we are running behind as the port wasn’t open, even though the statement was in the ios config –  but issue resolved and we are gridin! 

After about 30 minutes of playing in this 3 server grid mode, IRC chat confirmed that 0.4 opensim software was built more for stand alone mode and that the inventory retainment function is non-existent at this point in the build. Despite the 3 days of deployment to achieve grid mode on 3 servers endured due to the firewall, it worked successful. Further it was rather easy to deploy, once the db port was functioning.    

Changing the Avatar in OpenSimulator Within the Second Life Client

Tired of Ruth??

Changing the Avatar is rather simple but seems like a task because when you sign on you’ll notice that nothing on Ruth is editable. Open your intentory window  and righ click to the menu  of options. On the list you will see the option to make a new shape –  Create a new shape and then wear it  –  Bam  now you can edit the AV shape and sex type. If you make a new skin in this same manner  and wear it  –  you can edit the skin features, so on with the hair, eyes, shirt, pants, and shoes…

Now bear in mind this is a test software so when you log out  and relog in  –  you will start with Ruth again, but your items( despie what you name them before you logged off ) will be in your inventory as new item,  just wear again and your good to go.

Welcome to the Grid Galaxy Project. This little piece of the internet is dedicated to the advancement of the Open Simulator software by our project team.

OpenSim is a BSD Licensed Open Source project to develop a functioning virtual worlds server platform capable of supporting multiple clients and servers in a heterogeneous grid structure. OpenSim is written in C#, and can run under Mono or the Microsoft .NET runtimes.

Currently our project consists of testing and development of service for the Microsoft Windows Platform.
